The racing drones are quite popular among remote pilots who race their drones in the league for prizes. Ever since the parts to buy and assemble a racing drone can be very expensive. Most of them go for between $500 to $750 which is way out of most beginners and first-time flyers’ league. Fortunately, there is a great racing drone that is affordable. Yet, packed with a powerful punch and amazing racing-like capabilities. The HS150 Bolt Bee (See Price) is created by Holy Stone, which is a popular Chinese manufacturer well known for toy quadcopters. Thus, this is why I wanted to create an HS150 Bolt Bee review to inform you about this great product.

I am fairly certain you have already heard some of Holy Stone’s most popular drones such as HS700 Ophelia (Check Price) and HS210 Night Elf (See Price). The HS150 Bolt Bee makes to the list of most popular racing drones for beginners. In this article, you are going to find out if Holy Stone HS150 Bolt Bee is truly an entry-level racing drone you have ever wanted.

Last Christmas, I got an HS150 Bolt Bee racing drone as a gift from my brother. Hey bro, if you are reading my article about HS150 Bolt Bee review, I want to say thank you for this gift! This drone is completely different from any toy-grade drones you will see on the consumer market. Why? Well, that’s the reason why I am writing an in-depth review of this mini racing drone. In my review article, I will tell you what makes HS150 Bolt Bee different, unique, and popular among beginners.

Design

The main deal that makes this yellow quadcopter different from the rest of the drones I have flown. First of all, the HS150 Bolt Bee is designed to be aerodynamic. Its motor arms don’t come with any excess materials. The excess materials were removed in favor to make it lightweight and minimize the air drag.

The body frame doesn’t come with any sharp edges. Instead, it is smoothly curved in the front so that it can handle better in light to moderate winds. Aerodynamically, the HS150 Bolt Bee racing drone is just about the most lightweight you will fly that is meant for both indoor and outdoor activity.

I liked the fact of how they positioned the power button underneath the drone. If you have played with older models before, you would have known how hard it is to insert the battery just to turn it on. With HS150 Bolt bee drone, all you have to do is push the button… and ta-da, there you go! Furthermore, the battery is modularized. That means it is designed to have protection against both overcharge and discharge.

HS150 Bolt Bee Mini Racing Drone

Did I mention that this mini racing drone has mean eyes? In the front, two blue LED lights give it an interesting impression. Also, on each end of the motor arms, there are rubber landing pads installed to help soften the impact when the drone lands. Overall, the design is very good. It felt like the HS150 Bolt Bee was built with high-quality craftsmanship.

Performance

This is one of my favorite parts when it comes to reviewing a drone, especially in the HS150 Bolt Bee review. The performance says a lot about the value of a drone and that is a no exception with HS150 Bolt Bee racing quadcopter. When I took this drone out for a spin, I started on the lowest setting until I become comfortable with the controls.

By the time I was ready to test it on its highest setting. Holy Stone company claimed that it can fly up to 31 miles per hour, so I decided to give it a go-to see if it lives up to its promise. And, oh boy, it flew like a zipping bee. It went whoosh right ahead of me. I installed the propeller guards on the drone and it doesn’t affect the speed at all. That is because the way its motors are designed to provide propulsion at maximum force. So it doesn’t matter whether you have guards on or not. Holy Stone company does encourage you to add the guards on.

Plus, the HS150 Bolt Bee is packed with features that are super easy to learn and friendly for beginners. It is equipped with Headless Mode, Altitude Hold, 360-Degree Flip, and Speed Mode. Headless Mode allows you to control the drone based on the direction you are pushing the levers at instead of the direction it is facing at. A really important feature to have for those who prefer to fly more easier. In the next section of the review, I will talk about accessories and parts that are included in the package.

Accessories & Remote Controller

What is more than having a drone and a remote controller? A package that is packed with gifts and additional parts. The HS150 Bolt Bee box comes with a notebook that you can use it to draw, scribble or to keep notes of. And yes, it comes with an additional battery. A single battery gives you an average flight time of 7 minutes. In total, you will be able to fly for 14 minutes.

Along with that, what I have is a propeller spanner for replacing the propellers. I haven’t crashed my drone that hard enough to bend the propellers yet, thanks to the guards installed on it. Also, what we have here is extra propellers and screws for replacing the missing ones.

HS150 Bolt Bee Parts and Accessories

You might be looking at the remote controller and think to yourself: oh my god, what a bulky remote controller! It is not that hard to control the drone with that remote controller, believe me. It does look like a professional-grade.

To put this way, you are flying a drone and handling this remote controller. All of sudden, people think you are flying a professional drone because of its size and the way it is designed. The controls are very straightforward and super easy to learn. As you can see, it only consists of necessary buttons and inscription on it.

The main buttons that you will use frequently are trimmings, power buttons and of course levers. Altitude and Headless Mode are located on the left section and trimmings to the right. On the shoulder of the remote controller are the speed mode and 360-degree flip. On the back of the remote controller is where you need to insert batteries.

Customer Experience

With an average rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars in Amazon, 73% of the reviewers gave the Holy Stone HS150 a five-star rating. Most of those who bought the drone are happy with its performance, flight speed, and especially its affordable price. It is an excellent introductory racing drone. The drone is solidly built, and the propellers are flexible, making the drone nearly crash-resistant in grassy landscapes. Drone fliers are also happy with the drone’s yellow color because it means you won’t lose it in tall grass as it sticks out evidently. One helpful feature is that when the battery is low, the controller will begin to beep along the lights flashing on the drone. All in all, if you’re looking for the most affordable beginner racing drone, this is for you.

Final Verdict of HS150 Bolt Bee Review

Before I wrap up HS150 Bolt Bee review, I have a few more things to say about this drone. It is one of the fastest entry-level quadcopters you will find on the market. Along with popular drones like the Co flight 1802 Drone and X12 Drone which has the same speed as this racing quadcopter does.

HS150 Bolt Bee Showcase

Combined with superior speed, stability, and ease of controls. I think the HS150 Bolt Bee (See Price) is easily one of the best starter drones for beginners and first-time flyers. While it doesn’t have a built-in camera like the IN 1802 drone (See Price) and X12 drone (See Price) has, it is still quite a formidable quadcopter for starters. From my experience flying this quadcopter, I can strongly recommend this drone. It will make a great gift or to add to your drone collection set. You can buy it here.
